Zapp's WHO DAT? Potato Chips to Benefit Louisiana Food Banks

For 2010, Zapp's Potato Chips proudly carries on Ron Zappe's newest tradition, WHO DAT? Potato Chips, donating a portion of the proceeds of each sale to Louisiana area food banks.  Zapp's Potato Chips plans to roll out the campaign in early August.

In August 2009, Ron Zappe, founder of Zapp's Potato Chips, wrote "this is the year of the Saints and we're going to the Super Bowl, so let's start the party now!"  Zappe put his money on this prediction by giving the five Louisiana area food banks a portion of the profits from his Zapp's WHO DAT? chips.  Ron said at the time, "This just feels good and tastes good for a great cause and there are lots of hungry folks out there and every bit and bite helps!"

In 2009, Zapp's Potato Chips donated almost $30,000 to Louisiana area food banks from the sale of WHO DAT? chips.  These Louisiana are food banks provide the hungry with one of life's most basic needs, food.  These food banks generate more than $12 worth of food for every $1 donated to assist in feeding children, the elderly, the working poor, and homeless.

WalMart and Sam's Club Announce "Fight Hunger Together" Initiative

Walmart named Feeding America as one of the recipient organizations of a landmark $2 billion committment over five years to fight domestic hunger through the "Fighting Hunger Together" initiative.

This commitment from Walmart will include $250 million in cash grants to Feeding America and other hunger-relief organizations, in addition to the value of food donated to Feeding America food banks across the nation.  Feeding America will receive the first cash grant in the amount of $6 million, which will fund manufacturing of 60 new refrigerated trucks for Feeding America food banks.

"We are genuinely thankful to Walmart for their sustained commitment to fighting domestic hunger," said Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America.  "With 49 million Americans struggling with hunger, our country is in crises.  Walmart's multi-year contribution will help give Feeding America and our nationwide network of more than 200 food banks the latitude to more effectively serve the 37 million people who turn to us every year for assistance with access to nutritious food that is needed more than ever before.  No one should go hungry and we thank Walmart for supporting our mission for a hunger-free America."

Walmart has been a dedicated partner of Feeding America since 2005 and was recently named Feeding America's 2010 Donor of the Year.  The award came after outstanding donations of food, funds, and vehicles during 2009.  Food donations from Walmart and Sam's Club in 2009 totaled more than 116 million pounds of food - the largest-ever annual food donation to Feeding America in the organization's history.
